For more than three decades, Sumit Arya has been a driving force in the growth and evolution of the South Asian wedding industry in North America. An entrepreneur, industry advocate, media personality, and event producer, he is best known as the Founder and President of DulhanExpo, one of the longest-running and most influential South Asian bridal expo series in the United States.
Since launching DulhanExpo in 2003, Sumit has helped transform the way South Asian couples discover, evaluate, and connect with wedding professionals. Under his leadership, DulhanExpo has become a trusted resource for engaged couples and their families, bringing together leading venues, photographers, videographers, decorators, deejays, caterers, jewelers, fashion designers, entertainers, travel specialists, beauty professionals, and other wedding service providers under one roof. Through its highly anticipated in-person exhibitions, DulhanExpo has played an instrumental role in helping thousands of couples turn their wedding visions into reality.

In addition to producing 5 hotel-scale DulhanExpo exhibitions annually since 2003, throughout the New York and New Jersey region, Sumit Arya is widely recognized for creating and organizing the world's largest South Asian bridal shows. For 13 consecutive years, from 2006 through 2018, he produced the Annual International Grand DulhanExpo, a landmark event that attracted more than 285 booths, showcasing 175+ exhibitors and 5000+ audiences per show—setting a benchmark unmatched within the South Asian wedding industry. Hosted at premier convention venues including the Garden State Exhibit Center and the Meadowlands Exposition Center, these mega-exhibitions brought together wedding professionals, designers, retailers, and event specialists from seven countries, creating an international marketplace for the wedding and events industry.
The International Grand DulhanExpo became renowned not only for its unprecedented scale but also for its world-class entertainment and cultural programming. The events featured live performances by internationally acclaimed artists including Jay Sean, RDB, Mickey Singh, Arjun, Raghav, Kamal Raja, Ali Haider, Culture Shock, The PropheC, Raxstar, Amar Sandhu, Bilz & Kashif, Tasha Tah, Jay Kadn, Roach Killa, Mumzy Stranger, and numerous other performers and Fashion Designers from the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Pakistan, and the United States. By combining wedding planning, fashion, entertainment, and international business networking under one roof, Sumit transformed the traditional bridal show into a large-scale consumer experience that helped redefine the South Asian wedding expo industry worldwide.
Prior to founding DulhanExpo, Sumit spent thirteen years as a full-time wedding photographer and owner of Regency Wedding Center in Jackson Heights, New York. Through his full-service wedding company, he provided photography, videography, mandap design, event décor, floral arrangements, and invitation design and printing. During this period, he established himself as one of the most recognized South Asian wedding photographers in the NY/NJ Tristate area, personally photographing more than 2,000 events, primarily South Asian weddings. This extensive hands-on experience gave him a unique understanding of the evolving needs, challenges, and opportunities facing both couples and wedding professionals—insights that later became the foundation for creating a successful bridal expo platform.
Committed to advancing the industry as a whole, Sumit also founded the Association of South Asian Wedding Professionals, an organization dedicated to promoting collaboration, education, networking, and professional excellence among wedding businesses.
Beyond events and business leadership, Sumit became a familiar voice within the South Asian community as the host of DulhanRadio from 2006 to 2016. Airing on Dhoom Radio, EBC Radio, and Radio Zindagi, the program provided expert wedding planning advice, industry insights, and interviews with leading wedding professionals, helping thousands of listeners navigate the wedding planning process.
Sumit's academic background reflects both scientific discipline and creative vision. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Dayal Singh College in Karnal, India, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Photography from the City College of New York, where he achieved Dean's List honors and received multiple college-level art competition awards.
His contributions to the wedding and events industry have been recognized internationally through honors including the Best Bridal Expo Award from Jewel of India, the Wedding Industry Leader Award from the Event Managers' Fraternity in Kolkata, India, and recognition at the International Wedding & Tourism Conclave 2025 in Jaipur, India.
Sumit continues to be recognized as a respected voice within the global wedding industry and is frequently invited to participate in leading conferences, trade events, and professional forums. In July 2026, he will be a featured speaker at the International Wedding and Tourism Conclave (IWTC), one of the wedding industry's premier international gatherings, held at the prestigious Fairmont Jaipur in Rajasthan, India. His presentation, "The Indian Wedding Market in the USA," will draw upon more than three decades of experience serving South Asian couples and wedding professionals while providing insights into consumer trends, business opportunities, and the evolving landscape of the North American wedding marketplace. His continued participation in international industry forums reflects his commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and professional excellence within the global wedding community.
Looking ahead, Sumit continues to expand the Dulhan brand beyond live events through the development of innovative digital resources designed to serve both engaged couples and wedding professionals. Upcoming initiatives include Dulhan Magazine, Dulhan Directory, and a portfolio of category-specific online search and discovery platforms that will make it easier for brides and grooms to find trusted wedding services while helping businesses increase their visibility and connect with qualified clients.
